Refrigeration
Free Energy International is developing innovative superconductor-based replacements for evaporators and condensers for refrigeration units. These replacement technologies, which are at the early prototype stage (as illustrated in the conceptual model below), use thermal superconductors to eliminate many of the problems caused by cycling large volumes of refrigerant through conventional heat exchangers.
Free Energy's new designs take advantage of the ability of thermal superconductors to change from heating to cooling without using any moving parts or changing fluid directions. This technology has the potential to radically reduce mechanical stress on pipe joints when refrigeration systems reverse direction from cooling to heating in order to defrost ice that builds up on the evaporator.
